Coherent Breathing Exercise

Make sure that you are in a comfortable position. Preferably sitting up, back straight. Let’s go ahead and give our shoulders some nice little shoulder rolls. Maybe even roll, do some head rolls as well. Just kind of loosen up your body a bit, getting that nice, comfortable position. And again, breathe in when I say and breathe out when I say. We are going to start with three seconds breathing in and out, and then we’ll casually build up.

Okay? All right, let’s get started.

Inhale. Two, three, exhale, two, three, inhale, two, three, exhale, two, three, inhale, two, three, exhale, two. Three inhale two, three, exhale, two, three. Inhale, two, three, exhale, two, three. Inhale, two, three, exhale, two, three, inhale, two, three, exhale, two, three, inhale, two, three. Exhale, two, three.

Kicking it up. Inhale. Two, three, four, exhale, two, three, four. Inhale, two, three, four, exhale, two, three, four. Inhale, two, three, four, exhale, two, three, four. Inhale two, three, four, exhale, two, three, four. Inhale, two, three, four, exhale, two, three, four. Inhale, two, three, four, exhale, two, three, four, Inhale, two, three. Four exhale, two, three, four. Inhale, two, three, four, exhale, two, three, four.

Kicking it up. Inhale two, three, four, five, exhale, two, three, four five. Inhale two, three, four, five, exhale, two, three, four, five. Inhale, two, three, four, five, exhale, two, three, four, five. Inhale, two, three, four, five, exhale, two, three four five, Inhale two, three, four, five, exhale, two, three, four, five. Inhale, two, three, four, five, exhale, two, three, four, five.

Kicking it up. Inhale two, three, four, five six, exhale, two, three, four, five, six. Inhale, two, three, four, five six, exhale, two, three, four, five, six. Inhale, two three, four five, six, exhale, two, three, four, five, six. Inhale, two, three, four, five six, exhale, two, three, four, five, six. Inhale, two, three, four, five, six, exhale, two, three four, five, six.

Thank you so, so much for doing this coherent breathing exercise with me.

Last Week Recap

I wanted to go ahead and apologize for the technical difficulties that happened last week, for starters. I record two separate files, one for the meditation and one for the actual episode. This allows easier integration when I edit. When I uploaded my content, I didn’t realize what they meant when asking which file was the master file. I ended up going with the content, which left the guided meditation out of the fold. Now I know that “master file” means the only file that will publish.

Episodes 42 and up are available on YouTube if ever there is an audio discrepancy. The episodes are categorized by playlists so that all the meditations, affirmations, and other content are together.

Switching From a Free Podcast Host

Switching from a free podcast host, Anchor took some serious research and trust in my ability to excel. I’m going to list the cons and pros of the publishing host, starting with the cons.

Cons of Anchor

  • Anchor offers access to all the tools, directories, and functions that you need to succeed in podcasting; there has to be a caveat somewhere. When you use the Anchor app, you don’t have full control of your content. This means that your name isn’t an attachment to the content you create; the name attachment will be Anchor.
  • Anchor shows you limited stats. For example, Anchor puts your podcast into the Apple podcast system under their account, not your own. You will not be the podcast’s author, which means all the stats go directly to Anchor. This is how they show you the stats on your homepage. This seems cool, but nothing beats directly accessing your analysis on each platform on your own. I am currently going through claiming my podcast with my Apple ID, which is such a pain. If you’re reading this before you officially start with Anchor, please add your podcast to your preferred platform manually. That will give you a better chance at autonomy.
  • Everything I did was directly attached to Anchor. Yes, I had Anchor ads in my episodes at one point, but that was something I consented to. Anchor automatically added their logo to my podcast artwork. They have a feature where you can opt-out, but it still was visible when I turned mine off. They would automatically add a tag line at the end of my show notes to promote their app. Again, something I didn’t consent to, but that’s what you get when everything is presented as free!

Pros of Anchor

  • Anchor is the perfect app/website for beginners of podcasting. Especially those who want to get a feel for what podcasting is about without the extra commitment.
  • The publishing tools that they offer are top-notch. I love that you can record, edit, add music, and more. They really do an amazing job of having it all set up for you. Anchor is a one-stop-shop for someone who doesn’t have the proper tools to edit.
  • Being able to make money was a major plus as well. It was awesome to see engagement slowly turn into profit as my listenership grew.

Why Abandon Anchor?

Why I’m switching from a free podcast host has a lot to do with my colleagues. I am a member of podcast groups on Clubhouse, an exclusive app only available on iPhone at the moment. These groups give me more insight on how to better my podcast skills. I noticed with most people in those rooms have been wary of companies and websites that advertise themselves as free.

In one specific instance, I was in a room hosted by Carla Wilmaris, CEO of Idea to Launch. She talked about switching from a free podcast host if any podcaster was serious about elevating their craft. The link in her Instagram has a template on how you can switch from Anchor to Libsyn specifically.

Why Libsyn?

  • Carla Wilamris’ template included a code giving me the first month of Libsyn free.
  • Libsyn offers different subscription branches, allowing me to control my upload storage needs.
  • The support team is fast and super friendly, and they have been assisting me along the way.

Thinking of Switching From a Free Podcast Host?

If you are thinking about switching from a free podcast host, I will keep you posted on my Libsyn experience. You can use other podcast hosts to publish your podcast if Libsyn isn’t the one for you. I will talk about those sites plus their pros and cons in another post soon!

Challenge

The challenge for this week has multiple parts for easier digestion.

  1. Think about an avenue in your life; finances, hobbies, work-related things, et cetera.
  2. Research ways where you can elevate that experience.
  3. Invest!

Let’s use this podcast as an example to show you what I mean.

  1. The avenue in my life I want to elevate is my podcast career with MamMaJ(ism).
  2. According to my research, one major way I can elevate my podcast is by switching from a free podcast host to a premium one.
  3. I will invest in this avenue of my life by upgrading the podcast publishing host.

When I say invest, I’m not specifically talking about money. We’re still deep into a pandemic where job security is at an all-time low, and unemployment rates have skyrocketed. If you don’t have the funds, that is okay and completely understandable. I’m not just talking about investing money; I’m also talking about investing time, investing efforts, investing all the things necessary to help you become successful. Please invest in making a plan, figuring out the steps you need to take to get the funds to make it happen. This could look like creating a savings account, redirecting money going to subscription services, etc., whatever fits your situation.

If you find this information helpful, be sure to check out my other posts! Until we meet again, please be kind to one another, and from the bottom of my heart, I love you.
